Be Smart Like Socrates

Socrates mastered the art of asking the right questions to enable a shift in thinking.

I recently had a chance to hear Peter Block, author and thought leader, on building community and consulting flawlessly. His thought was this:

“Questions bring us together, answers pull us apart.”

The type of questions he was referring to were, in his word, “delicious”. They are:

  • Ambiguous
  • Personal
  • Anxiety Producing

The space for exploring these types of questions is within dialogue, conducted with respect, care and deep listening and the desire to explore and understand.

Throughout the 3 day conference I set about to collect great questions. Here is what I captured:

    • What do you want to live into?
    • What are you making of this life?
    • What is the question you won’t answer?
    • What do you NOT want to be?
    • What is my (or our) highest intention?
    • What do you fear the most?
    • What is it that you ache for?

What are your delicious questions? Share them with us!

  1. Love these Kris! Great discussion starters and thought provokers. Here is mine…
If you could show up in the world today as your BEST self, what would that look like? What would it feel like?
