Well, I’ve done it. I always had dreams of writing a book – and today I’m thrilled to announce that it is available on Amazon. It’s taken longer than one would have ever dreamed, been through more edits than I could have imagined and more changes than Indiana weather in spring! But it is here.
So what is it? It is about leading today – in a world that is changing at an unprecedented pace, is uncertain, filled with complexity, amazingly global, diverse and interconnected. It is based on my work of the past 14 years in organizational change and transformation. Perhaps even more relevant, it draws from my own personal experience – as I created and adapted and learned how to run my own business, do the work I love, and do so with a gentle spirit, a gracious heart, and immense gratitude.
It is practical – I’ve attempted to make the writing crisp, clear and filled with examples. You won’t find research or extraneous explanations or going on and on and on just to fill a few more pages. You will find exercises, that are time tested by me and my clients, that teach you how, step by step to do things like develop a strong inner core, create something new and fresh, develop yourself and the people you work with, leverage team dynamics, use conflict productively, simplify and build gratitude into your life. And if you want to do a deeper dive into any of the topics, you’ll find my top 3 to 4 resources, all of which I’ve used and used often.
It is atypical – very few books on leadership will show you how to create, or to shed, or to cultivate gratitude, or to manage polarities, or to develop yourself and others in powerful ways with little or no budget. It is a right-brained book in a left-brained world. It is about collaboration as an alternative to competition. It is about using the richness of diversity rather than building tolerance for it. It is about shedding rather than doing more. It is about finding the way rather than knowing the way.
So, it is with no small amount of breathlessness that I release this work out into the world. It is my sincere hope that The Leader’s Guide to Turbulent Times enables others to find new ways in old organizations, that it frees some to ask what should not be done, and that it encourages many to ask what it is that we want to create – rather than asking how do we fix what is broken and not serving us well.
Let me know how you find it!
