Contest Results and an Invitation

Thanks to all who voted! Turns out that the top blog post of 2014 was a tie between The Power of Words, and Do Emotions Have a Place at Work?.  I’ll be contacting the randomly selected winners of a signed copy of my book by email shortly – so watch your inbox!  I’ve also included (below) the comments some voters left on the survey.  They were very thoughtful and I appreciated them.

If you are in the Lafayette, Indiana, area, I invite you to join Evergreen Leadership and Tippy Connect on Thursday, January 29th at 5:00 PM at MatchBOX Coworking Studio located at 17 S. 6th St., Lafayette, to hear me speak on
10 Must Have Skills for Today’s Leaders.
The event is free of charge and open to all.

REGISTER HERE FOR THE EVENT.

Note: While at the event, Tippy Connect members will also learn about an upcoming opportunity to participate in an Evergreen Leadership Development Circle that will be offered to them at an amazing price point.

Now, about those thoughtful comments…

The Power of Words

I liked this post the best because I frequently see words tossed around carelessly, without regard to the impact they could have on others. The “sticks & stones” phrase I frequently heard from my parents isn’t really true. Words can have a tremendously positive impact (as in the video) – encouraging, lifting others up, providing solace. Or they can be devastating or degrading, or misleading. I believe the workplace – and even the world – would be a much better place if all of us considered the potential impact our words had and took much more care when speaking, emailing, writing, etc.

Do Emotions Have a Place at Work?

Because our conditioned (flawed) bias for intellect and rational logic is prohibitive…so much so that it not only prevents us from acknowledging, developing and integrating our emotional intelligence, but it makes us afraid to even consider doing so.

Why 60 is Better than 16

First – I turned 60 this year – and I agree with all statements!!! The post also emphasizes the evolution towards the focus on others, not ourselves.

Just Ask

Concrete example to stretch our insecurity (no matter age or position).

The Hard Truth about Transformation

We have become a society believing that instant gratification is our due. This blog is a great reminder that worthwhile goals and change require time, focus, work, patience and help from a support network. Forward baby steps can have amazing results! It has worked for me,but my impatient nature still kicks in and tries to take over. Thank you for the wake up call!

And finally…

I can’t pick!! I reviewed the ones listed and I can’t decide which one is my favorite. A few of these are centered around the power of words. Like you, I used to wonder why my supv. and I struggled over the words we used in a Power Point. I learned to understand how important words were then and still continue the study today.
I remember when RRD did the training session on empathy and emotions in the work place so many men made [the] comment that it was the best training they ever had at Donnelley so yes, emotions have a place at work.
Since I turned 60 last week and spent the day in the hospital with my father watching as they drained 4000 ML of fluid off him and also watched his personality change as it happened, the 16 vs 60 post was ringing home.
I know you can be too lean. I’ve seen that in action.
I just recently opened a door for one of my employees to step into what I think might be an excellent position for him because he had said his first love was in computer programming and driving truck was a way to put food on the table. I also have had some excellent opportunities and made some life long friends because I volunteered for “training” assignments.
All in all I agree with the person who said you were the “training whisperer”. You have a unique way of taking something that raises questions or comments to you and sending it on in a way that resonates and makes the rest of us think a little outside (or a lot sometimes) of our boxes. … Keep doing what you are doing because we know you are doing what your heart loves and it shows.

Thanks again to everyone who voted!
